The Night The Gods Wear Shoes

We spent three nights at a Theyyam kavu in Kannur with a photographer, a sound recorder and no plan.

The drums start around eleven. By two in the morning the kolam is complete, the torches are lit, and the god arrives. We were there for the colour — we left with a whole design language.
